MUAY THAI BOXING

The Thai combat sport Muay Thai, also known as “the art of eight limbs” due to its use of fists, elbows, knees, shins dates back to the 16th century and was then known as Siamese-style boxing. In the 20th century it became an internationally recognised discipline when the first international fights were organised. The sport has enjoyed a surge in popularity in the past decade with Thai boxing gyms opening their doors the world over, training future professionals as well as teaching the discipline for fitness only. The professional league is now governed by the World Muay Thai Council in Bangkok.
