Boxing day Tsunami

On December 26th 2004 an earth quake measuring 9.2 on the richter scale caused a tsunami which cost the lives of 250,000 people in Asia and Africa. This series of images documents the aftermath of the disaster in Southern Thailand.

Ong Art, whose small hotel in Khao Lak was completely destroyed in the tsumani comforts his daughter at a hospital in Phuket. He had not yet told his daughter that her mother and other family members had died.

Baan Nam Khem fishing village was one of the worst hit areas in Thailand, with more than half of it's population dying in the disaster.

The bodies of tsunami victims who perished in Khao Lak and Takua Pa were brought to local temples turned into makeshift morgues.
